ServiceNow CEO John Donahoe to take top job at Nike
John Donahoe, who has spent the better part of two decades in the Bay Area first as chief executive of eBay, and most recently as CEO of cloud-based business software developer ServiceNow, is heading north to take on the chief executive position at Nike.
Santa Clara-based ServiceNow said in a statement that Donahoe will be replaced as its CEO by Bill McDermott, who served as CEO of business-software company SAP from 2014 until this month. Donahoe will remain as ServiceNow's CEO, and retain his seat on the company's board of directors, until January 2020, when he takes on his new role at Beaverton, Oregon-based Nike.
Donahoe had been CEO of ServiceNow since 2017. In a statement, Donahoe said that ServiceNow was "a special company and leading the team has been an honor."
Prior to joining ServiceNow, Donahoe served as president of eBay Marketplaces from 2005 to 2008, overseeing the e-commerce company's core business operations, and several acquisitions such as StubHub. Donahoe took over eBay's CEO position from Meg Whitman in 2008, and remained in that job until 2015. Prior to joining eBay, Donahoe did a stint as CEO of consulting giant Bain & Co.
Donahoe is also chairman of the board of PayPal, and is currently a Nike board member.
At Nike, Donahoe will replace Mark Parker, who has been Nike's CEO since 2006. Parker will become Nike's executive board chairman.
